A BEAUTY IN BENDIGO - On a gorgeous 40 degree day in Summer, my husband & I decided to take a day trip to Bendigo.

For lunch we stopped at a gem of a restaurant called Rocks on Rosalind and boy were we treated to an absolute ‘Rocks Experience’!!

The beautiful heritage listed building surrounding the restaurant is located within Rosalind Park overlooking Bendigo’s famous Alexandra Fountain – its interior features original stone clad vaults, incredibly high ceilings and stunning arched windows.

We were seated promptly by the attentive and warm wait staff who came over with our drinks and took our food order swiftly. The dishes arrived with impeccable timing with the right amount of intervals between courses.

Below were the dishes we ordered:

Entrée: – Seared scallops, potato foam, chorizo, tomato, grape, saffron dressing – Local lamb loin, Salute olives, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, salsa verde – Tataki, Wagyu 7+ Cohuna Beef, lotus chips, miso sauce, wasabi pannacotta, wakami puree, toasted sesame seeds

Sides: – Hand Cut Chips, twice cooked, garlic aioli – Zucchini ribbons, asparagus, raisins, pistachio nuts

Main: – Double rib roasted lamb rack, witlof, asparagus & apple remoulade, candied salted macadamias, calvados jus – Seafood Tower for 1, pan roasted lobster tail, tempura nori wrapped Moreton Bay bug tails, king prawns, scallops, salt & pepper crusted squid, a selection of Rocks sauces and condiments.

The absolute standout dishes were the wagyu tataki, scallops and seafood tower. The side dishes were a perfect accompaniment to the main meals though we could have done with just the twice cooked chips.

The history of the building that houses Rocks on Rosalind dates back to the mid 1800’s being the previous Bank of Sydney with its vault now being utilized as a private dining room. The lower level ‘Rocks Downstairs’ was also converted to an additional dining area with stone alcoves and leather chesterfield booths making for a very intimate space.

It was an absolute treat for us to dine at this wonderful, historic and local gem in Bendigo – hopefully we’ll be back soon!
